Steel tariffs are still the biggest factor in garage door pricing this year

Canada's 25% surtax on steel derivative goods took effect December 26, 2025, and it covers steel doors and frames under tariff item 7308.30.00. It applies globally, with no country exclusions, so import-sourced steel doors carry the full surtax. South of the border, the US Section 232 steel tariff doubled to 50% in June 2025 and was expanded in August 2025 to sweep in finished steel garage doors. In spring 2026 three major US manufacturers raised dealer pricing within about sixty days: Clopay (mid-March, percentage not published), C.H.I. Overhead Doors (6% on sectional doors from April 6, 2026) and Amarr (5% from April 27, 2026), as reported by a US dealer (Firstline Garage Door, posts of 2026-04-02 and 2026-04-16, https://firstlinegarage.com/c-h-i-overhead-doors-is-raising-garage-door-prices-6-on-april-6-2026-the-third-manufacturer-in-60-days/); none of the three has published the notice itself. If you sell import or domestically assembled doors, your price sheets from early 2026 are probably out of date.
